The secret to understanding sefer Shmuel- know your enemy!

Hi everyone,

For perek Gimel I didn't have a specific Eretz Yisrael idea in mind so I am skipping to an introduction to perek Daled. In perek Daled we have our first of many battles against the Plishtim in sefer Shmuel. As such, I believe that the foundation for understanding sefer Shmuel can be understood davka from a short analysis of who the enemy is. Who were the Plishtim?
